Here are the 10 commandments for computer ethics
Self-assessment Daan is a computer buff. He loves to surf the Internet and try all available applications. Daan also does web design and programming, among others. In one of his computer explorations, Daan discovered a virus that destroys the computer motherboard. To test his discovery, Daan surreptitiously installed the virus in his friend Kael’s PC. After a week, Kael broke the sad news to Daan. His PC has bogged down and he needs to buy a new motherboard. Daan finds himself torn between whether to tell Kael or not. 1. Which of the 10 commandments on computer ethics did Daan violate? 2. If you were Daan, will you tell Kael the truth or not? Explain. 3. If you were Kael and Daan told you the truth, what will you do?

1. Daan violated the first and seventh commandment as he used Kael's computer to install the virus to which beforehand, Daan already knows that it was a virus that could harm Kael's computer; he also used Kael's computer without asking permission.

1. Daan violated the first commandment which is the "Thou shalt not use a computer to harm other people" because in the first place he is aware that the virus could harm Kael's computer but he chose to install it anyway. He also violated the seventh commandment for using Kael's computer without Kael knowing.

1. Among the 10 commandments for computer ethics, Daan violated the 7th ("Thou shalt not use other people’s computer resources without authorization."), 9th (Thou shalt think about the social consequences of the program you write.”), and 10th commandment ("Thou shalt use a computer in ways that show consideration and respect."). Daan didn’t ask permission in accessing Kael’s PC, which is also a disrespectful action. He did not consider Kael at all and secretly installed the virus to test his discovery too without considering even the consequences of it.
